Black vaal anumulu beans Seeds

Black Vaal, also called Anumulu bean or hyacinth bean, is the black-seeded form of Lablab purpureus. This packet contains 10 or more seeds for planting. The species is a vigorous climbing or sprawling legume suited to warm growing conditions and can be trained on a trellis, fence, or other sturdy support.

Also known as: Hyacinth bean, Lablab bean, Bonavist bean, Dolichos bean, Sem, Val papdi, Avarai, Avare, Dolichos lablab and Lablab niger.

Plants develop trifoliate foliage and may produce purple or white flowers followed by flat, curved pods. The mature seeds of this selection are glossy and dark. Growth is strongest in full sun with well-drained soil. A fertile sandy or loamy garden bed is suitable, and compost can be incorporated before sowing.

Sow seeds about 3 to 4 cm deep after the soil has warmed. Space plants about 20 to 30 cm apart and leave additional room between rows. Keep the seed bed evenly moist during germination without waterlogging it. Under warm conditions, emergence is commonly observed in about 7 to 10 days, although timing varies with temperature, moisture, and seed-bed conditions.

Once established, water moderately, with particular attention during flowering and pod development. Mulching can help retain soil moisture and reduce competing weeds. Good airflow around the vines helps manage humid conditions. This warm-climate legume can be grown as an annual where frost limits the season. No germination rate or harvest date is guaranteed.
