Cupressus Torulosa, Himalayan Cypress Seeds

Himalayan Cypress (Cupressus torulosa) is a tall evergreen conifer with a pyramidal outline, dense sprays of scale-like foliage, and rounded woody cones.

Also known as: Himalayan cypress, Bhutan cypress, West Himalayan cypress, Surai, Himalaya-Zypresse and Cyprès de l'Himalaya.

For cultivation, choose a sunny, airy position suited to a mountain or mild temperate conifer, with protection for young seedlings from extremes. Use a clean, sharply draining mix that stays lightly moist but never saturated around the fine roots. Freshly sown containers should have drainage and good air movement. Natural seed lots vary, so emergence speed and the number of seedlings depend on pretreatment, temperature, moisture, and the grower's conditions.

Seed starting: Soak the seeds for 24 hours, then give them about 30 days of cold, moist stratification for more even emergence. Sow roughly 0.5 cm deep and keep near 18–24°C. Label the container with the sowing date, keep it out of standing water, and check moisture regularly. Do not discard a sound pot simply because individual seeds emerge at different times.

After emergence, After germination, provide strong light and airflow and avoid overwatering. Pot seedlings individually once roots hold the medium together, then acclimate them gradually to outdoor sun and seasonal conditions. Mature trees can become large, so permanent placement should allow for height and canopy development.

Seeds are intended for propagation. Before planting outdoors, confirm that the species and your growing method are suitable for your climate, available space, and local rules.
