Nicotiana tabacum Connecticut Broadleaf Seeds

Connecticut Broadleaf is a heritage selection of Nicotiana tabacum from the Connecticut River Valley in the United States, named for its very wide leaves. Nicotiana tabacum is a tall annual of the nightshade family (Solanaceae) with clusters of tubular pink flowers. These are planting seeds for gardeners and growers, offered in packets of 50, 100 and 300 seeds.

Sowing

Nicotiana seed is very fine. Fill a clean tray with a fine, free-draining seed-starting mix and moisten it before sowing. Scatter the seed thinly over the surface and press it gently into contact with the mix without covering it deeply, because the seed needs light to germinate. Keep the tray evenly moist, warm and bright, and avoid standing water.

Seedling care and planting out

Once seedlings appear, keep watering carefully and give steady light with gentle airflow. Move them into individual cells or small pots when they can be handled without damage, then harden them off gradually before planting out. Plant in full sun in rich, well-drained soil and leave generous space: the plants grow tall and wide.

Safety

All parts of Nicotiana plants are poisonous if eaten. Keep seeds and plants away from children and pets, and wear gloves when handling the leaves. These seeds are for planting and are not for consumption.

Packet and storage

Choose a packet size above. Store unused seed sealed in a cool, dry, dark place. Germination and growth depend on seed storage, temperature, day length, soil and care, so no fixed timing or result is guaranteed.
