White Rajma Bean Seeds — Phaseolus vulgaris

Also known as: White kidney bean, Cannellini, Common bean, White bean, Haricot bean, Alubia, Haricot blanc, Feijão branco, Weiße Bohne and Fagiolo bianco.

This packet contains 10 planting seeds of White Rajma, a white-seeded Phaseolus vulgaris bean. Rajma is a culinary and trade name used for kidney-type common beans. The plants are warm-season annual legumes that produce pods containing the mature dry beans. Growth habit and maturity can vary within the selection, so observe plants and provide support if stems begin to climb.

Sow directly after frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed. Place seeds about 2–4 cm deep in fertile soil with dependable drainage. Keep the bed evenly moist during emergence but avoid saturation. Leave enough room between plants for airflow. Common beans dislike prolonged root disturbance, making direct sowing preferable in most gardens.

Choose full sun and water at soil level during flowering and pod filling. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can produce leafy growth at the expense of pods. For dry beans, let pods turn tan and crisp on the plant. Collect them before prolonged rain or splitting causes loss, then finish drying under cover before shelling and storage.

Kidney-type beans must be soaked and cooked thoroughly; never eat them raw. Planting seed is not ready-to-eat food. Store unused seed sealed, labelled, cool, dry, and protected from humidity and insects.
