Seed facts
- Seeds per gram: 6,070–9,420, typical for the species and varying by lot (approximate).
- Storage: at least 5 years when kept cool and dry at 1–7 °C (approximate; stated as a minimum).
- Sowing depth: on the surface or no deeper than 6 mm.
Sowing and growing
- Press the seed onto fine, moist mix and leave it uncovered or barely covered; light aids germination.
- Hold at about 18–24 °C. One supplier guide gives 7–14 days to emerge; we have no tested emergence time for this lot.
- Indoors, start about 8 weeks before the last frost, then transplant 30–45 cm apart in full to partial sun.
- Use well-drained soil; established plants tolerate heat and drought.
What to expect
Plants spread by rhizomes, so give them room or divide the clump. The pink and white mix is a seed-grown population; we do not state the proportion of each colour.
FAQ
How deep do I sow yarrow?
On the surface or no deeper than 6 mm. Burying the fine seed deeper is the common reason for poor emergence.
How long do the seeds keep?
At least 5 years in cool, dry storage at 1–7 °C.
Will it spread?
Yes, by rhizomes. Some yarrow cultivars are even mown as drought-tolerant lawns.
